Olivia Bohlmann's History Day project on Nellie Bly went all the way to the state finals!
Earlier this year Olivia sent me an email about how she had a History Day project coming up and had chosen Nellie Bly as her subject. I was very excited that Nellie's life and story were finding their way to more students, and was more than happy to assist Olivia with research for her project. A little while later I received a note that Olivia's project was tops at her school and had been accepted to a regional competition. Cool! Then I got a note that her project was tops at regionals and qualified for state. Wow! Olivia didn't win the state competition, but she was a finalist. In her most recent email, she told me she had already selected the subject for this year's project - Martha Graham - and hopes "that I can make it as far (if not father) as I did last year." Watch out world... this delightful young woman is going places!

This is a wonderful resource—especially the links to original articles, which History Day and other researchers are always in search of. Congratulations, Arthur Fritz! There will be a Nellie Bly cluster on the new database I’m creating with NYU’s Elmer A. Bobst Library, to be housed at: undercoverreporting.org
