This article is not only a good example of Nellie's own work, but of the impact that Nellie was having upon her readers.
"Working Girls Beware" is almost a prototypical Nellie Bly article. The subject revolves around poor women who are being wronged. Nellie Bly is the one who brings us their story. She sheds light on an issue, on a people, on a world most of us are not aware. And rightly so! These women are being conned, swindled, taken... what ever word you want to use. What is just as interesting to me is that it is Nellie Bly to whom they turn for help. It speaks to the importance of Nellie Bly as a reporter, her reach into the community and how much people respond to her articles. Help from the police isn't mentioned, possibly never even considered. Instead when poor women look for justice they turn to Nellie Bly. The person they know will champion their cause.
